New England Cottage Eclectic

Finally, we arrive at the New England Cottage Eclectic style, where my heart truly lies. This aesthetic blends the charm of New England cottages with an eclectic mix of patterns, textures, and vintage finds. Items passed down from grandma, found on the beach or picked up at a TAG sale on a Saturday morning. (if your not from New England, you may have to google the last one).

Think weathered wood furniture, shiplap walls, and cozy, overstuffed armchairs. The color palette often includes soft blues, whites, and grays, complemented by nautical accents like brass lanterns and sailboat motifs. Add in diverse elements such as patterned rugs, mismatched vintage decor, and a mix of old and new artwork to create a lived-in, curated feel.

The New England Cottage has been lived in for generations and has the patina of countless summers of visitors, memories and hopes for what is to come. Its timeless which is not a sought after look in days of consumerism and fast fashion.

New England Cottage Eclectic:

  1. Vintage Finds: Incorporate a vintage mirror, small furniture piece, or decorative item like an old lantern to add character and a curated feel.

  2. Layered Textiles: Layer a patterned rug over a larger neutral one, and add cozy throws and cushions to your seating areas for that lived-in cottage look.

  3. Nautical Accents: Introduce subtle nautical elements like a brass barometer, ship's clocks, old boat navigation tools, and real lanterns from a salvage yard. You could find old sailing flags from a yacht club or buoys to place in creative places. A mix of vintage seascapes and water-themed pieces of art reinforce the coastal vibe without going overboard.
